Home Improvement star Zachery Ty Bryan has removed a social media post announcing his separation from his wife after it emerged he had copied the text from actor Armie Hammer.

Bryan, 39, who played the oldest son in the 1990s sitcom, revealed on October 1 that he was separating from his wife of 14 years, Carly Matros, in an Instagram post describing them as ‘best friends, soulmates, partners and then parents’.

However eagle-eyed social media users have noted the post, which has since been removed, was taken word-for-word from a statement released by Call Me By Your Name star Hammer, 34, when he split from his wife last July.

Twitter user Casey Cline tweeted yesterday: ‘I’m still stuck on this. Why did the oldest brother from Home Improvement plagiarize Armie Hammer’s divorce announcement? I need answers.’

The tweet, which has since gone viral, came days after Bryan was arrested at home in Oregon after allegedly strangling his girlfriend following a night out at a club.

Announcing the separation earlier this month, Bryan wrote: ‘Almost Fourteen years as best friends, soulmates, partners and then parents.

‘It has been an incredible journey, but together, we’ve decided to turn the page and move on from our marriage.

‘As we enter into this next chapter, our children and relationship as co-parents and dear friends will remain our priority.

‘We understand this news lends itself to public dialogue, but in the interest of our children and our family, we’re asking for privacy, compassion and love during this time. Thank you.’

The couple had lived together in Laguna Beach, California, where Matros is a successful real estate agent specializing in high-end residential properties.

Hammer’s separation statement, shared on Twitter on 10 July 2019, was essentially the same except for the number of years he and his wife had been together. Bryan also added a ‘thank you’.

On Friday, Zachery was arrested by police in Eugene, Oregon, after allegedly strangling his girlfriend following a night out at a club.

The former child star was arrested after a neighbor contacted police to report a domestic dispute.

A police report claims Zachery had wrapped his hands round his girlfriend’s neck and squeezed after an argument, TMZ reports.

In the report, Zachery’s girlfriend claims she tried to call 911 before fleeing across the street to hide when he grabbed her phone from her.

When police arrived they found Zachery sitting outside his home with his girlfriend waiting at the home of the neighbor who called the police.

Zachery portrayed Brad Taylor, the eldest son of Tim Taylor (Tim Allen), even though he was one month younger than Jonathan Taylor Thomas, who played his younger brother Randy.

His character was known for experimenting with different hair styles, as well as being the child who most frequently got in trouble.

He was lauded in the role, winning the 1999 Young Artist Award for leading young actor.
